Then Jesus took His disciples up the mountain, and gathering them around Him He taught them saying,

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn…
Blessed are the meek…
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness…
Blessed are the merciful…
Blessed are the clean of heart…
Blessed are the peacemakers…
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness…
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of Me.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.

Then Simon Peter asked, “Do we have to write this down?”

and Andrew asked, “Are we supposed to know this?”

and James asked, “Will this be on the test?”

and Philip asked, “What if we don’t know it?”

and Bartholomew asked, “Do we have to turn this in?”

and John said, “The other disciples didn’t have to learn this.”

and Matthew asked, “When do we get out of here?”

and Thomas said, “I doubt this has anything to do with real life.”

Then one of the Pharisees present from the State Department of Education asked to see Jesus’ lesson plans, questioned why His teaching didn’t include a unit on diversity, and inquired of Jesus His objectives in the cognitive domain…

and Jesus wept.
