Random Thoughts for November 2019

Following are some quotes and insights that have come to me from my own reading and friends' posts, blogs and emails.

"Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done." – Philippians 4:6

"Not only do our men and women in the military make sacrifices, but so do their families and especially their amazing wives and husbands. I want to thank you all! You all rock and continue to amaze me with your strength. You know who you are. Just a simple thanks to you all!" – A Veterans Day note from another of my many nieces

"A Veterans Day salute to our great Navy that allowed our family a life beyond our wildest dreams! We all four saw things and learned things that life on 'Elm Street' would not and could not provide. A few times the life lessons seemed overwhelming but all of us are better for it. Thanks Navy!" – The wife of a Naval Academy classmate

We lived in Connectictut for more than 40 years. We raised our children there; we were active in our Church, local schools, and the community. We designed, built, and loved our house in Woodstock. We buried a child there. But we had to leave and relocate to Ave Maria, Florida. We did not choose to leave. Sadly, the heavy taxes and excessive spending by Connecticut politicians forced us to leave. – Kate & Jim Leonard

"The problem is not that people are taxed too little. The problem is that government spends too much." – Ronald Reagan

"I'm from Connecticut, where you don't know if people are flashing their lights at you or hitting potholes." – A former member of our church's Youth Group

"The Russians are our adversaries. Our enemy is the Navy." – Gen. Curtis LeMay, USAF

"Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-times take twelve minutes. This is not coincidence." – Erma Brombeck

"A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all the other virtues." – Cicero

"It's wrong that only one company makes Monopoly." – Stephen Wright

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." – John F. Kennedy

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it." – Ronald Reagan
